Empowering Our Climate-Resilient Future
We happy to announce the official launch of Mãos Unidas in Chimoio, marking a significant milestone in our journey as an independent local NGO in Mozambique. This transition from Dorcas Mozambique to Mãos Unidas represents our commitment to creating sustainable impact through local leadership and tailor-made solutions for Mozambican communities.
“As a Christian organisation, we remain guided by values of compassion, integrity, and stewardship in all our work” – Florencio Marerua – Country Director
Looking Forward: Immediate Impact
We are pleased to announce that Mãos Unidas will immediately begin WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) emergency response activities in three districts—Caia, Maringue, and Chemba—in partnership with UNICEF. This intervention demonstrates our commitment to addressing critical needs while building long-term resilience.
Additionally, we will continue our successful WaterTime and SASSO initiatives, which have already made significant improvements in water access and management throughout our service areas.
Building on a Strong Foundation
While our name has changed, our mission remains consistent with the foundation laid by Dorcas in Mozambique since 2001. As an independent local NGO, we can now respond more flexibly to local needs and continue working in a small-scale, effective, and sustainable manner.
This transition was made possible thanks to years of investment in local leadership and capacity building. Dorcas will remain involved until 2026 to ensure a smooth transition, but the future of Mãos Unidas is now in the capable hands of local leadership.
